Welcome to our fourth game development competition

      How It Works

On Monday 14.10.2024 You will have a month to develop a game around the concept and instructions I will post. You will need to send a video of the project by 15.11.2024 16:00. After that, a vote will be held and the winning project will be announced.

      14.10.2024 We started!!!!!!!

The Gamejam Concept: Beyond Time Limits – Time Control
      • Beyond time: Let your imagination run wild! You must create a game where your character can play with time, control it, move between different moments, and use it to solve complex problems. Explore the concepts of time – slowing down, speeding up, going back or jumping forward.
      • Time control: Players must design worlds where they can influence the course of time – changing the pace of events, turning back time to correct mistakes, or jumping forward to discover the future.
      • Let your imagination run wild! Play with time however you want – there are no limits, just endless creativity!

Ideas for inspiration (no obligation to use, you can also combine several things together! You don't have to have one):

        • Slowing down or speeding up time: The player controls the pace of time, allowing them to slow down or speed up events around them. This helps solve puzzles, evade enemies, or overcome obstacles.
        • Back in time: The player can turn back time to correct mistakes, experience events differently, or discover new information that can be used later in the game.
        • Freezing time: A temporary halt to all movement in the world for a short period of time. The player takes advantage of the halt to move or perform critical actions while other characters and objects stand still.
        • Time circle: The player is in a repeating time loop. In each iteration, they are given the opportunity to change a small detail that allows them to advance in a stage or game.
        • Time jump: The player jumps into the past or future, causing environmental changes. For example, buildings change, plants grow or wither, and events occur differently.
        • Time as energy: The player uses time as a limited resource that can be used for various actions such as opening doors, activating mechanisms, or fighting enemies. Time must be managed wisely.
        • Real-time planning: Time does not stop and the player must perform actions with precise timing to succeed in missions. Every moment is critical and actions affect what happens in the near future.
        • Future pictures: The player sees visions of the future that can help him plan his steps more correctly. But the visions cannot always be trusted, which adds tension to the strategy.
        • Division between dimensions of time: The player moves between two different time dimensions – one moving at a normal pace and the other speeding up or slowing down. You must move between the dimensions to solve puzzles or avoid traps.
        • Time control for specific objects: The player does not control all of time, but only certain objects. He can speed up, slow down, or stop objects to solve puzzles or fight enemies.

      References for inspiration:

      • Games: Braid, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Life is Strange, Quantum Break, Superhot, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Outer Wilds.
      • Movies: Inception, Tenet, Edge of Tomorrow, Back to the Future, Looper.
      • Books: Slaughterhouse-Five, The Time Machine, Kindred, The Time Traveler's Wife, 11/22/63.

Competition rules - no limits! You are allowed to use anything ready you want, of course if you use models/effects or anything else you did not create you must say so and update what you created from 0 and what you took ready.

      Important advice for GameJam participants:

      The concept:

Focus on one central idea: Choose one central and fascinating idea that will form the basis of your game. Don't try to put too many ideas together, it can make for a confusing and unclear game.
Keep it simple: It's better to focus on simple and effective game mechanics than trying to introduce overly complex systems. Remember that your time is limited, and you should focus on what can be effectively implemented.
Be original: try to think of new and unique ideas that have not been done before. Use your imagination and choose a trend that will make your game stand out.
Use the GameJam theme creatively: Think about how you can incorporate the GameJam theme (“time”) into your game in an interesting and engaging way.

      Game development:

Plan the game in advance: Before you start writing code, it is important to plan your game in an orderly manner. This will help you avoid mistakes and save time during development.
Use appropriate development tools: There are many development tools available for free that can help you create your game. Choose the tool that best suits your needs and your level of experience.
Test your game regularly: It is important to test your game regularly during development to make sure it works properly and is fun to play.
Get feedback from others: Share your game with friends, family or other GameJam participants and take their feedback into account. This will help you improve your game and turn it into a finished product.

      Introducing the game:

Create an engaging demo video: The demo video is your chance to impress the judges and make them want to play your game. Be sure to create a high-quality and attractive video that presents the main idea of the game and its unique features.
Write a clear and professional game description: The game description is a place where you can give potential players more information about your game. Be sure to write a clear and professional description that explains what your game offers and what makes it unique.

      Additional tips:

Be partners: Collaborating with other GameJam participants can be a great way to learn and develop. Share ideas, help each other with programming and art, and give feedback on others' work.
Don't despair: game development can be difficult and challenging. If you encounter problems, don't despair! Just keep trying and looking for solutions.
Most importantly - have fun! Gamejams are a great way to learn, create and have fun. So let your imagination run wild and enjoy the process!

      Good luck at GameJam!
